SG Bloggers Unite

I have had this idea. It is probably a stupid idea, so I would like to hear what all the other SG bloggers (and reader alike) think about it.

The Southern Gospel Bloggers Awards.

Maybe there are already too many awards out there for SG. I know Avery has mentioned giving awards on his site. But we could get all the "regular" bloggers together (cyber together) , come up with a list of categories, have the bloggers nominate a top 5, and then let the reading public vote. I think the blogger list at SGBlogNews would be a good place to start anyway...

This set of awards would have a diverse set of people doing the nominating, don't you think? I also think it would be nice to get all of us bloggers going in the same direction for a change. Maybe it would start an era of understanding and cooperation! Or maybe it's just a stupid idea?

Anyway, everyone let me know what you think!

Well, ya beat me to it,lol. I had thought about this very thing a few days ago, while posting to my own blog (Face The Music). But I have not been able to put a lot of thought into it because of my workload in other areas. That is why I have not mentioned it on my site. Though, I have pondered the categories that could be voted for.

I don't think it is a stupid idea, myself. I think it would be fun and interesting.

Just a few questions, though...

1) Would this be done as an "official" or "serious" awards competition, such as SN Fan Awards, Diamond Awards, etc? OR would it be something "unofficial", strictly done in fun?

2) How often would awards be given? Would it be an annual event, or a fun monthly award, etc?

3) Would there actually be a prize or "trophy" type award given to the winner, or just the name listed as a winner?

4) Where/what site would publish/host the ballots, nominees, awards, etc?

Sorry for so many questions. I just think it might be a good idea, and I was wondering how far, or how serious you want to go with it.

If you decide to go with the idea in any capacity, I'll be glad to help any way I can.

As I said, I think it will be fun and interesting!

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with on the idea.

John

John, thanks for the response! I was certain the idea had been considered by others, which is one reason I threw it out there. I was hoping it might get a dialogue started.

You've asked some very good question also.

1) I think this depends on how much involvement we can get. I would certainly like to see it become "serious", but we could start off "unofficial and fun" if that would get the ball rolling.

2) Well, if it were "serious" I would say an annual event would be best. However, we could also have a monthly type of update as well. Sort of like the NBA gives out "player of the week", but also "player of the year" awards.

3) Again, this depends on the "seriousness" of the award and the level of participation we could get together.

4) Great question! I think this could be worked out pretty easily, though. If there were one location for the "ballots, awards, etc" then the rest of us could link directly to those places from our individual blogs.

Thanks again John. Hopefully there will be some more response/interest and we can work from there. If it is just one or two of us, it probably is not worth it. However, if we could get involvement from most/all of the SG bloggers, we could really do something nice.

Funny Chris!

I never thought of you as a "glass half full" guy!

There are definitely issues to resolve, though.

...and I just thought of one issue we need to consider...

How would we give an award to an anonymous blogger? If he/she accepted an actual award (something tangible, such as a plaque or something), then, his/her identity would be revealed.

Any ideas??

That's too funny, John. I actually never thought about giving any of us "bloggers" an award anyway! LOL!
